Software update MAG256
Public and Factory SW versions/images running in STB can be updated from the Embedded portal (HTTP, USB update methods) onto a Factory image only.
To update STB onto a Public image (provided in each release) use update methods with the System Recovery Utility menu (USB&Bootstrap, Multicast …).
To perform STB updating from the Embedded portal or an external portal (HTTP, USB) to custom/other SW image which is different from the Factory one it is necessary to use the following instructions:

Update in Embedded portal by HTTP
In this way, you can update a Public or Factory image running in STB onto a last stable version of the Factory image located on the STB manufacturer's web server. There are two options on how to update STB software in the Embedded portal:
- Update from Settings menu;
- Update from System Settings menu.
Update from Settings
- Open Settings menu of the Embedded portal;
- Choose Software autoupdate;
- In the opened window choose Update manually (F2 on RC).
- In the opened window Software autoupdate choose the list of New versions by pressing OK - The latest available version is on top of the list;
- Select the required software version;
- Choose Update (F1);
- Wait until STB is updated. The status of the updating is displayed by the progress bar and comments. STB will be rebooted automatically after the update completes.
Update from System Settings
- Go to Settings ⇒ System settings (or press Setup on the RC).
- Click Sofware update item to open the Software Update window.
- Set Update method = HTTP.
- In the option URL, the address of the imageupdate file is displayed.
- Click Verify (ОК) to analyze if the update is required.
- In the opened window you can compare a Current version (running in STB) and a New version (available on the Web server).
- Make your choice:
- Click Cancel (Exit) - to refuse the update. You will return to the Software Update window.
- Click Update (F1) - to start the update. The status of the updating is displayed by the progress bar and comments. STB will be rebooted automatically after the update completes.
In manufacturer's Public/Factory images, in the URL option, the following updating address is specified: http://update.infomir.com/mag/256/imageupdate
Update in Embedded portal with USB drive
STB software can be updated with a USB drive. The required software version should be pre-downloaded and written to the USB drive.
USB drive requirements
- The USB drive must have a FAT32 file system format. If there are more than one partition on the USB drive use the first one.
- You can use any USB connector: both rear and front.
- Сreate mag256 directory in the root of the USB drive.
Update in Embedded Portal onto Factory image
In this way, you can update a Public or Factory image running in STB onto a Factory image.
At PC (USB drive preparation)
- Download the imageupdate file from the manufacturer's server. To get the URL to the file:
- Go to Settings ⇒ System settings ⇒ Sofware update
- Set option Update method = HTTP.
- See the option URL.
- Put the imageupdate file in the USB drive directory mag256.
At STB
- Connect the prepared USB to STB.
- Open System settings ⇒ Software update.
- In the Software update window set Update method = USB. You can see two new strings:

- Disk - a name of the USB drive;
- Path - a path to the update file location on the USB drive.
- Select Verify (OK) to make sure that the STB has detected the imageupdate file.
- If the file is detected and readable successfully, you'll see the Software Update window.
- In the Software Update window, you can see a description of software versions: a Current version (running in STB) and a New version (available on the USB drive).
- To reject the update click Cancel in the Software Update window.
- To start the update click Update (F1) in the Software Update window.
- Wait until the update process is complete. The status of the software update is displayed on the screen by a progress bar and comments.
- When the software is updated the STB will automatically reboot.
Update with System Recovery Utility onto Public image
System Recovery Utility is a program launched at the STB booting stage. This type of update is implemented for installing Public and Factory images.
Public and Factory images location
The last version of the Factory image is located at manufacture's server: http://update.infomir.com/mag/256/imageupdate
The last version of the manufacturer's build of the Public image is provided in the SW release.
At the PC (preparation the USB-drive)
- If you need to upgrade STB to factory image:
- Download the imageupdate file from the manufacturer's server.
- Put the imageupdate file in the USB drive directory mag256
- If you need to upgrade STB to public image:
- Download the imageupdate file from.
- Put the imageupdate file in the USB drive directory mag256.
At the STB
- Connect the prepared USB drive to STB.
- Enter the System Recovery Utility menu;
- Select Upgrade Tools ⇒ Upgrade Software ⇒ Using USB ⇒ Yes;
- Wait until the update process is complete. The info about software update status is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
- When the software is updated the STB will automatically reboot.
Multicast update
STB software update using Multicast is similar to that described for STB MAG250/254/270. Before use this update method it is need to familiarize that description.
1. Download the imagupdate file from the required location.
2. Download MCAST-V2.0. (zip), unzip, and run Mcast_v2.0 utility:
- in opened window QueryUserForNetworkInterface specify the interface from which to stream data;
- in main application window Multicast file streamer specify parameters for only one stream (to send imageupdate file):
- File name - file location on the PC;
- IP-address, port - IP-address and port to which streams data. Set the value: 224.50.0.131:9001
- Start streaming by the Start button.
3. Enter the System Recovery Utility menu;
4. Select - Upgrade Tools ⇒ Upgrade Software ⇒ Using multicast - confirm with Yes.
5. At the bottom of the TV screen you can see:
- update process info;
- progress bar moving informs about receiving the data.
6. After successfully file receiving the updated software will be launched.
STB software auto-update
The procedure of automatic updating STB MAG256 software is the same as described for STB MAG250/ 254/270.
