USB drive requirements and troubleshooting
Requirements
The USB drive that is intended to perform STB SW update must comply with the next requirements:
- FAT32 file system format.
- If there is more than one partition on the USB drive, it should use the first one.
Troubleshooting
The STB does not start updating or does not detect folder or the imageupdate file - USB drive is not initialized, 'Internal error', 'Imageupdate not found', 'Wrong signature', 'Unsupported architecture' messages, etc.:
-
- Try to use a different USB socket of STB.
- 'Wrong signature', 'Unsupported architecture' messages on the screen. - Probably, you use not intended type of image:
- Make sure that imageupdate file matches the STB model.
- Check up the image type:
- you may install a Public image only via System Recovery Utility;
- you may install a Factory image only via Embedded portal (System Settings) if your STB runs public or factory image.
- you may install a Custom image of a particular operator via Embedded portal (System Settings) if your STB runs the Custom image of this operator.
- ou may install an Operator image only instead of Operator image that was made by the same operator.
- 'Imageupdate not found' message on the screen:
- Recheck folder name and update file. Folder name and imageupdate file must contain only small letters (lowercase). Folder and file names should not contain characters added: examples of the wrong name are mag_322, Imageupdate, imageupdate(1), and so on.
- Check extension of the imageupdate file - set Show extension view mode of the folder. Files should not have extensions (like txt, etc.).
- Probably, there is file accessing issue of this USB drive (especially if you know that the USB drive was used as a boot disk or was handled by a utility like "Partition", etc.).
- Format the USB drive (set the requirements) and repeat updating procedure;
- Use partition utilities and make the only one partition on USB flash drive (for instance, use
diskpart
utility of OS Windows 10). - There may be a problem with the USB drive - try to use a different USB drive
- If you are not sure about the source of imageupdate file, re-download it (factory image - from factory software update server, custom image - from operator's update server), replace the file on the USB drive, and then try to update again.
- Try to use a different USB socket of STB.
Multicast update
STB can be updated from System Recovery Utility to Public SW image only.
STB software update using Multicast is similar to that described for STB MAG250/254/270. Before use this update method it is recommended to familiarize this description.
1. Download imageupdate file to PC that is LAN connected;
Note. The latest version of the Public SW image is accessible from STB release.
2.Enter System Recovery Utility menu;
3. Select Upgrade tools ⇒ Upgrade Software ⇒ Using multicast ⇒ Yes.
4. STB starts multicast update and you can see info message at the TV screen. Info message indicates IP address and port from which STB expects receiving the data flow.
5. Download to PC and run mcast_v2.0 utility.
Note. PC and STB must be in the same network (be in the same address space).
6. Start multicasting of image file on PC with mcast_v2.0 utility. You should stream only one file imageupdate (stream #2).
- in opened window QueryUserForNetworkInterface specify the interface from which need to multicast;
- Specify parameters for stream #2 (imageupdate file) in main application window Multicast file streamer:
- File name - imageupdate file location;
IP-address, port - IP-address and port to stream data. You should set the values of IP address and port that are indicated on the screen in info message - see item 4.
- Start multicasting with the Start button for stream #2.
7. At the bottom of the TV screen, you can see the progress bar moving that informs about receiving the data.
8. After successful receiving and checking up the image (look after the update process info on the TV screen), the updated software will be launched on STB.
Multicast address
Multicast update method uses IP multicast streaming to transfer the SW image (imageupdate file) from PC (by Mcast utility) to STB. To ensure the correct receipt of the file, the Multicast address should be the same on the two sides.
Multicast address has format: <IP address>:<Port>.
Multicast address setting in Mcast utility
Multicast address for imageupdate file transferring must be entered in the IP-address, port option in Stream 2 section.
Multicast address assigned to STB by default
The multicast stream address 'by default' is assigned to the STB at the factory. Below are the multicast address 'by default' for different STB models.
STB model | Multicast address 'by default' |
---|---|
MAG322, MAG324 | 224.50.0.211:9001 |
MAG349 | 224.50.0.151:9001 |
MAG351 | 224.50.0.171:9001 |
Multicast address changing in STB
Multicast address 'by default' can be changed using the settings of the Embedded portal (System settings ⇒ Servers ⇒ More, the Update URL option). The value format is: igmp://<IP address>:<port>
For example:
igmp: //224.40.0.51: 9001The range of valid values <IP address> is specified in RFC 5771. You may, for example, use the next address range: 224.0.1.0 - 238.255.255.255.
<Port> parameter defines TCP/IP port. The value of this parameter can be taken from the range of 1024 - 65535.
Multicast address checking up in STB
To make the user possible check the multicast address from which STB expects receiving the image file, the multicast address value is displayed on the TV screen in an info message after the Multicast update is started (see step 4 in update procedure described above). Example of the info message for MAG322:
Starting update from multicast. Starting network. Receive is started Receive from 224.50.0.211:9001 is started
STB software autoupdate
The procedure of automatic updating STB MAG322/324/349/351 software is similar as described for STB MAG250/254/270.
